March 21 - NRK Norway national TV station arrived to film our operations for a safety documentary for education which will appear soon on in Norway. Luckily the weather was perfect sunshine and no wind which provided ideal conditions for a glacier day on the Strupbreen and an island traverse of Uløya for both groups.

March 19 - Another windy day but the skiing surprised all by being compressed powder in the sheltered areas. Today Florian's group headed to Egnesdalen to Sorbmegaisa South summit provided as usual amazing views with high lenticular clouds in the sky. Mikal's group headed over Uløya for the Kvelvågtinden summit and west gully to the beach.
Strong winds provided high lenticular clouds over the fjord, great views in still good snow

Charlie again stealing the glory photo with silky smooth snow through the brilliant forest skiing on Sorbmegaisa.
March 18 - Welcoming a new week of guests who are eager to get out there! After strong winds have subsided and the summits again more welcoming with less wind the skiing is still good in sheltered areas. Still powder in Magic Gully on Storhaugen and Uløya island surprisingly with some excellent skiing despite the strong winds from the last days. The weather may change a little but Steve's cooking still is getting loud cheers with tonight King Crab on the starter plate!

Less wind today made for a pleasant ascent where the scenery could be enjoyed rather than the view of the inside of your jacket hood!

The long Viking style dining table is cosy, social and sometimes noisy with BIG ski stories!!!
March 15 - Powder to the arm pits and a dream week! After heavy snow at the beginning the sun appeared and so did cold Arctic air from the north to keep the snow smoking cold powder and without a breath of wind. Check the epic photos from a lot of fun this week.
This is why we ski... powder, blue sky and deep inky blue fjord below. Nice turns!

Endless turns directly to the beach and a cold beer on ice waiting on the boat!!
Incredible powder skiing with continuous snowfall from the north bringing buckets of cold dry snow off the ocean. There are only huge smiles from the guests, ok they are frozen smiles but the cold air is keeping the powder light and fluffy!!! Photos from Stefan and Florian.

The winter solstice marking our deepest winter day, although with a cloudless sky we enjoyed 5 hours of glowing light from the south. Today was ice fishing and snow mobiling with Paul, Sandra from OZ and Megumi and Matt from the UK bathed under a fire red sky.

 Wonderful route through picturesque scenery
The light to the south remains intensely coloured for around 4 hours
The Polar Light during winter is simply magical with bronze, pink and purple glows reflecting onto the mountains, creating a surreal atmosphere. Now we're reaching the darkest period of winter but we still have 4.5 hours of light enabling plenty of time for activities.
Polar light through the day, this magical light lasts 5 hours
Veronika and Finlay out for spot of fishing
Back to basics - hunting and collecting. One nice cod for dinner.
It's almost dark but the light still shines on the mountains from the hidden sun
Winter has begun with over 1m snow falling in the Lyngen Alps and surrounding islands. It is possible to ski but it's important to check the avalanche risk first. See here Daily Snow Avalanche Safety Report>>

It has arrived! Snow, snow, snow. We are crazy for skiing. The ski season began with a quick ski... ok it was on the roof of the lodge but it still counts!!!
The feeling the snow gives you is undescribable - You feel you could fly with the eagles
OK, no big mountain but it feels so good to slide again even if on the lodge roof....
Kastle skis youngest sponsored skier - (lowest in the photo!) Finlay (6 months) gets some ski action with papa!
We are reaching our solar maximum 2012 & 2013 and the Northern Lights season has arrived with spectacular shows lighting the autumn evening sky. We have an active programme of activities and aurora shows throught the winter months. See here for this winter northern lights Norway visit>>
The aurora appeared around 10pm and dazzled our lucky guests who just arrived a few hours earlier.
Brilliant weather provided the opportunity for some exploring and ice climbing on the Strupbreen (glacier) for both our family groups. Ian Filby family and Rebecca and Steve (honeymooners!) wasted no time and experienced the best of Lyngen Lodge activities... Ice climbing day and exploring the wonders of glacier up to 40.000 years old.

 Visiting the historic copper mine
A lunch spot with a drop!!!
Wonderful conditions for glacier adventures, our lastest was to the Strupbreen opposite the lodge on the Lyngen Peninsula with guests Anker and Stefan from Germany. The purpose of the day was adventure into nature and photography. The incredible beauty here is enhanced by the sheer lack of human existance. The wildlife is abundant with sea eagles and reindeer and it's truely one of the most remarkable unspoilt places I've ever had the pleasure of visiting with guests.
The scenic and peaceful Strupbreen. Only accessible via boat. Our new boat for the summer sport "The Cod Father"
Reindeers greet us as we arrived onto the beach

BBQ Lyngen Lodge style - reindeer burgers!
Still reflections outside the lodge across the Lyngen Fjord, perfect conditions for beginner kayaking tours under the steep cliffs and bays on the opposite side of the fjord.

Summer season has begun with an incredible nature tour to Reisa Valley. So much wildlife in one day, moose, reindeer, golden eagles and the icing on the cake was a once in a life time sight of a wild Wolverine from 20 meters distance. A truly brilliant start to the season.
The chances of seeing a wolverine in the wild face to face is like winning the lottery. As we paddled down river he seemed just as interested in us as we were of him as he scurried along the river bank! I fumbled for my camera in the shock and managed to capture him in a panic as the canoe rolled from side to side in the current. He's an aggressive hunter for reindeer, a lonesome traveller and extraordinary rare. Think of him as a cross between a bear and a badger type animal which moves like a Komodo Dragon!
