Atlantic Salmon and Arctic Char

The Reisaelva is one of Norway's best kept secrets, it is certainly one of the most picturesque rivers in Norway and now with its high returning numbers of salmon it is a jewel on the fishing world tour. The salmon population is increasing every year and specimens of 20kg+ are not a rare sight.

The Arctic Char provides sensational fishing in the Reisa is found along the entire river during July and August, it migrates from the ocean in shoals and continues to feed when in fresh water unlike the Atlantic Salmon who fasts during the spawning runs. The Arctic Char is a magnificently marked fish which appears pale grey-green coming up from the ocean and just prior to spawning the belly turns a deep orange red colour and the lower fins turn bright orange. Average sizes are around 1kg and Arctic Char have been caught around 2kg in the Reisa.
