The Lyngen Lodge Summit To Sea Skiing Concept
Imagine standing on the top of a snowy summit in the Lyngen Alps of northern Norway. You look down at the fjord sparkling in the sunshine below you. You adjust your equipment one last time, then head down the slope, making a first descent of untouched snow. Lyngen Lodge offers unique ski touring holidays that really take you from summit to sea, and to some of the best skiing terrains in Norway. With over 60 summits with
individual characteristics from which to choose, our highly-skilled UIAGM / IFMGA qualified mountain guides are on hand to ensure that you have the best possible ski touring experience, regardless of skill or fitness level, and that your time at Lyngen Lodge goes beyond expectations.
You have many years of ski touring / randonee experience and advanced skills of the skinning/ascending techniques, uphill kick-turns, (spitzkehre, switch-backs) and can handle steep mountain ascents.
You are a competent / advanced off piste / back country skiier and able to ski moderate to steep terrain over 38 degrees with good edge and speed control. You can handle without problem deep powder, hard pack snow, wet slush snow and tight forest skiing.
Advanced – Fitness: It is important you rate your current level of fitness as this should not be influenced by your skiing skills. You need to be in excellent personal physical shape. You are able to ascend minimum 1300m of ascent per day at 450m per hour ascent rate.
Safety Briefings: Upon arrival at Lyngen Lodge, you will attend a safety briefing and workshop on avalanche rescue and boating procedures. Daily briefings take place after breakfast.
Breakfast – 7:30am: A large spread of international breakfast options is provided, including cereals, porridge, meats, salmon, eggs, and freshly baked bread.
Transportation: The best skiing is accessed by boat, skidoo (snowmobile), or 4x4. Boat transfers typically last 15 to 55 minutes – you then disembark directly onto the beaches to begin the guided ski tour.
Climbing and Skiing: Each day starts with ascents to summits, climbing on skins. Ascents range from 600m to 1500m, depending on fitness, ability and the weather (usually 2-6 hours). Slopes for guided ski tours in Lyngen are typically wide and constantly angled.
Lunch: Hot drinks and a packed lunch are consumed on the summit.
Afternoon return to Lyngen Lodge – c.4:30pm: Afternoon tea, soup, cakes and waffles await you at the luxurious Lyngen Lodge. The sauna and hot tub are also available at the Lodge.
