The Canyon

Following the Kåfjord Canyon to the Gorsa Gorge

A short drive from the luxurious Lyngen Lodge takes you to the Kåfjord, an offshoot of the beautiful Lyngen fjord. From here, the guided hike takes you to the spectacular Gorsa Gorge and some of the most breathtaking scenery in the region. Along the way you will go past the Storfossen waterfall, which plummets over 140m down into the canyon.

The Gorsa Bridge on the Kåfjord Canyon Experience

The ultimate highlight of the Kåfjord Canyon Bridge activity is the famous Gorsa Bridge across the mighty canyon. The aluminium bridge spans from one side of the canyon to the other, offering once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities of the amazing gorge and the Storfossen waterfall.

There are different routes to reach the Gorsa gorge and the Storfossen waterfall. Heading around the Kåfjord in Norway, there are 4km and 8km guided hikes to choose from, winding their way through scenic birch tree woodland. Did you know...

  • The canyon itself is over 153m deep, making it one of the deepest in Europe
  • During the summer, thrill-seekers can bungee jump off the Gorsa Bridge
  • The stark physical landscape meant it was also an important mining area. The abandoned mining settlement of Ankerlia (now an open air museum) can be seen in the canyon.
