General
Where is Lyngen Lodge located?
Lyngen Lodge is located in the municipality of Kåfjord Kommune, in the county of Troms, in the famous Norway fjords. We are located in Djupvik along the E6 route approximately 2hour, 45 min from Tromsø.
Where do you suggest we fly to?
We recommend flying to Tromsø. Included in our packages (not summer) are shared transfers at set times.
Can I come as a solo traveller?
You are very welcome to stay with us as a solo traveler. During summer and northern light season you can book a room for single use (additional single room supplement applies), and during our Summit to Sea Skiing (Ski Season) we offer room share with another member of the group (same gender in a shared twin room). Exceptions can be made for some of the weeks.
I have food allergies, will you be able to cater for me?
We try our utmost to cater for any diet. Let us know about your dietary requirement at the time of booking to allow us some time to plan and prepare.
How do I proceed with my booking?
When you are ready to confirm your booking we will send you a contact information form to fill in. By filling in the details you confirm the booking and you will receive an invoice for the 25% deposit.
When is payment due?
We ask for a 25% deposit (non-refundable) at the time of booking. The remaining 75% is due 4 weeks prior to arrival for the Northern Light and Yoga packages, 6 weeks prior for the Summit to Sea package and directly at the Lodge during the summer season.
What if I have to cancel my stay?
We do understand that things can come in the way of your plans, and should you need to cancel your stay we will try if at all possible to offer you a stay on alternative dates within the same season of that year, and move the deposit to these new dates.
What kind of clothing will I need to bring?
This varies greatly depending on season. We always recommend layers and a water/windproof outer layer. See further details under each seasons section.
We are staying a few nights in Tromsø prior to our stay with you, will you be able to pick us up from the hotel?
We can arrange pick-up from any hotel in central Tromsø, both for the package included transfers and the privately booked transfers. Just let us know which hotel you will be staying at.

There is a coffee/tea self-service buffet available 24h
Northern Lights Season
When is the best time to see the Northern Lights?
There are equal chances of spotting the Northern Lights at any time during the Northern Light season (November – March), though different months have different qualities. The beginning of the season November / December can be drier and could mean a slightly greater chance of getting a good display. December offers a festive atmosphere at the Lodge and winter wonderland outside in the arctic nature. February/March offers picture perfect snow-clad mountains as a back-drop, and amazing light as the sun returns.
Where do we fly to, to get to Lyngen Lodge?
Included in the Northern Light package are shared transfers to/from Tromsø ó Lyngen Lodge, so you should look for flights to Tromsø. Normally the best option is to fly via Oslo to Tromsø where SAS and Norwegian Air Shuttle fly several times a day.
What if we are only able to stay for 3 nights during the set dates of a 4 night stay?
Due to our concept of packages and the logistics of our remote location, sadly we do not have flexibility to offer shorter stays within the 4 night package. If your dates are flexible we offer 3 night stays on set dates. Or we would happily arrange a private transfer for you back to Tromsø (at additional cost) a day early. The earlier departure would however not affect the total package price.
What happens if there is not enough snow to do the activities?
In the event of not enough snow, we might travel to a higher or colder location where there could be sufficient amounts of snow. However, we always have a back-up plan with equally interesting, alternative activities should we not at all be able to go ahead as planned. Leave this with us, we will make sure you have an enjoyable time.
Do you get daylight in the winter?
In December and early January we do not get much daylight. However it is not pitch black, and we do get a few hours of weak daylight around midday, which gives us enough time to go out and enjoy the arctic activities.
Will we need to bring our own warm clothing?
We will provide all the warm clothing you need for the Dogsledding and Frozen Lakes adventure (including thermal overall, boots and gloves). It is recommended to bring warm, comfortable clothing for the Cross Country skiing and Snowshoeing if you choose to do these activities, or to wear underneath the overall on very cold days. It is also advisable to bring some sort of insulated boots and a padded coat for any other time spent outdoors, and for putting on when going out onto the terrace to watch the Northern Lights displays.
Are children allowed in the winter?
Visiting Norway with kids is a great experience. Due to the layout of the Lodge and the general intimate, relaxed ambience however, we allow children from the age of 12 only in winter. Children from the age of 4 are most welcome during the summer months, when we are better able to accommodate little ones.
At what time do the transfers depart and arrive in Tromsø?
Included in the Northern Light package are shared transfers to/from Tromsø ó Lyngen Lodge. The latest possible arrival time at Tromsø airport is at 15.00 on arrival day. On departure day we will have you back at Tromsø airport at 12.30.
Where are the best flight connections to get to Tromsø?
We recommend to book flights via Oslo. From there SAS and Norwegain Air Shuttle fly several times a day.
Are there other things to do in Norway whilst at Lyngen Lodge?
There are 2 or 3 activities included in the Northern Light package (depending on of you have booked a 3 or 4 night stay). We offer a set itinerary of activities. The 3 night stay includes Dogsledding and Frozen Lakes adventure (snowmobiling etc). The 4 night stay has one additional activity which is a choice between Sea Safari, cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Upon request it is possible to book additional cross country skiing or snowshoeing as an afternoon activity.
We want to do some whale watching, is this possible at Lyngen Lodge?
The Sea Safari explores many sides of sea/fjord life, and you might be lucky enough to spot dolphins and sea eagles, however we very rarely see whales in the Lyngenfjord. The best place to go whale spotting is in the area around Andøya where the waters are deeper and cooler. Perhaps you could extend your stay in this region adding a whale safari either before or after your stay with us.
We don’t want to do the Dog Sledding, can we do another activity instead?
Due to the logistics of our package concept we do not have much flexibility to offer alternative activities. If there is a particular activity you do not wish to do, you are welcome to take a quieter day and enjoy the facilities at the Lodge, perhaps go for a walk or venture out on cross country skis or a bit of snowshoeing. You could go out on your own in the daytime if you have some previous experience, of we will gladly offer this as a guided experience in the afternoon when our guides have returned from the group activity (at additional cost). Note that the total package price will not be affected if you choose not to join the included activity.
Will we have to travel far to see the Northern Lights?
Our remote location is the perfect spot to enjoy Aurora displays. As there is very little light pollution here, you can simply step out onto the terrace to enjoy the displays. With the fjord and majestic Lyngen Alps as a truly spectacular back-drop.
If we can not make the transfer times, is there any other way of reaching the Lodge?
Though we strongly recommend that you arrive in Tromsø in time for the shared transfers, there are other ways of reaching us.
- It is possible to fly to our local airport Sørkjosen from Tromsø (flights operated by Widerøe) and we can organize a transfer to the Lodge from there (additional cost applies).
- If you are familiar with driving in wintery conditions it is possible to hire a car at Tromsø airport to make your own way out to us. Note that this is not recommended if you have no previous experience with driving in icy conditions.
- There is a public bus service a few times a day from Tromsø to Lyngen Lodge. Get in touch for further details.

Avalanche equipment such as shovel, probe and transceiver is mandatory equipment. A helmet is not required, though we are seeing a trend of more and more people wearing them, and we choose to do so ourselves. An avalanche backpack is optional, and we tend to see more people wearing them earlier in the season more so than later in the season.
Do I need a backpack?
Yes, you will need a backpack to carry your food, water, extra layers/gloves etc. We recommend a 40 L backpack. You can bring your own or hire at the Lodge.
Is it possible to book a single room?
Our skiing stays are offered on a shared room basis. If traveling solo you will be allocated to a twin room sharing with another (same gender) member of the group. Our twin rooms have two single-sized beds separated at the end by a small partition wall for added privacy. We can on some occasions offer a room for single use at the last minute (at additional cost) if availability allows.
Can I book massages after returning from the ski-touring?
Yes, you can book an appointment with our massage therapist. These are available upon request and subject to availability. To avoid disappointment, do let us know as early as possible if you would like to book a massage.
Can we take rest-days if needed?
A full week ski-touring can be quite physically challenging, and you are welcome to take a rest day if needed. You are welcome to use the facilities at the Lodge or perhaps take a little local walk. (Note that choosing to take rest days will not affect the total package price).
If we are not able to make it in time for the transfer time, is there any other way of reaching the Lodge?
